If you want to give input on highway projects the state is considering, the Louisiana Department of Transportation is making it easier. Spokesman Rodney Mallett says there’s a new interactive map on the DOT website.
“ This is the first time that we’ve ever used an interactive map. For this year we have comments until January 6th,” Mallett said.
Mallett says you can comment on any project that was presented during the annual legislative public hearings that are held across the state during October and November, which are called Road Shows. Now you can click on the map instead of going to a meeting or sending an email.
“ What we’re trying to do is increase the number of comments that we get and provide more opportunities for the public and elected officials to provide comments,” Mallet said and added the public input from the meetings and emails has often been helpful.
“A lot of times people will say well this needs to be done because there’s something planned that we don’t know about like a new business or a subdivision,” he said and cited as examples public input about plans to widen I-110 in a busy corridor in Baton Rouge.
