The Louisiana Legislative Auditor released details from a job satisfaction survey of child welfare workers within the Department of Children and Family services. The survey shows employees had issues with pay, caseloads, and unrealistic expectations.
Emily Dixon with Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s office says workers felt a lack of respect and support from supervisors.
“The fact that many people are not happy does not blend itself to a good teacher for DCSF employees under the current conditions,” said Dixon.
The report notes that most of these issues were reported as early as 2014, under the Bobby Jindal administration. Dixon says workers are forced to do more with less resources.
“The case workers are still are still expected to meet the same goals, and have the same face to face visits in the same time frame for completing investigations,” said Dixon.
DCFS has already started working on initiatives to address job satisfaction, performance, and leadership. Dixon says so far they are working on pay increases and filling vacancies.
“Developing systems that will help support employees, and trauma assistance that the employees needs to recover from what they’re seeing on a daily bases,” said Dixon.
