A recent survey by the U.S. Energy Information Administration indicates electricity prices in Louisiana are two cents cheaper than the national average. And while customers in the state have seen their power bill steadily increase, says it has to do with the price of natural gas.
“The problem is that natural gas sine we have a war going on over there in Ukraine its been short supply and its winter time and the price of gas goes up,” said Campbell.
In 2021 the average retail price for electricity in Louisiana was 8.82 cents per kilowatt hour compared to the national average of 11.10 cents an hour.
Campbell says Louisiana is making strides in creating and using new sources of clean energy and he predicts prices will decrease as a result. For example, North Louisiana is using wind power from Kansas.
“Also were building a lot of solar plants all over the state which will produce cheaper electricity and its a lot cleaner,” said Campbell.
Campbell says about five solar plants are being constructed in northwest Louisiana and three more in the New Roads area.
So that’s what were doing were trying to bring power and it’ll be cheaper and cleaner and in the long run we’ll be a lot better off,” said Campbell.
