A traffic stop in Rapides Parish on I-49 seizes 70 pounds of mushroom chocolate bars. Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tommy Carnline said officers smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle driven by Jacob Boulet and their canine dog Beny made an interesting find, 487 psychoactive mushroom chocolate bars.
“We have found large amounts of marijuana over the years, we have found artificial urine for testing in the past, and now this one is one of those ones that’s right up there at the top,” said Carnline.
In addition to Boult, passenger Aaron Foy was also charged with possession with intent to distribute. Beny also located ecstasy, THC vape pens, and other forms of marijuana.
Boult was driving a blue Subaru during the January 5th traffic stop.
In the last two years, Carline said Beny has been extremely helpful to their drug enforcement deputies.
“And it was a good alert by Beny and this is another accomplishment of this team that is out there doing work every day trying to stem the flow of illegal narcotics into our community,” said Carline.
And while seizing mushrooms sounds odd, Carline said they are seeing more of the psychoactive fungus, and they believe this particular stash is from Colorado.
“So, this is making a comeback, the other thing that we saw was 1.2 pounds of actual dried mushrooms. So, there’s a lot of people that are doing mushrooms now,” said Carline.
In addition to drug charges, Boult was also charged with improper lane usage and an expired motor vehicle sticker.
