State Police arrest a Lake Arthur man for hitting a bicyclist and killing him earlier this month. Trooper Thomas Gossen says 60-year-old Allen Vincent, of Gueydan, cycling along state Highway 717 in Vermilion Parish on the night of January 9th, when he was hit by a Toyota pickup. Gossen says they initially thought the cyclist was in the wrong lane, but learned otherwise.
“The driver of the Toyota Tundra, Kane LeBlanc, actually had crossed the center line and actually struck the bicycle head on, so the bicyclist was actually traveling in the correct direction,” said Gossen.
The crash happened back on January 9th at around 7pm, in full darkness. Gossen says a follow-up investigation the next morning led them to conclude that the pickup driver, 20-year-old Kane LeBlanc of Lake Arthur, was the one who had crossed into the wrong lane.
“Once the troopers were able to go in during the light of day and check out more of the roadway conditions and more of the evidence left at the scene they were able to make this determination,” said Gossen.
Gossen says a routine blood toxicology sample was taken from LeBlanc and the report meant additional charges
“Mr. LeBlanc was over the legal limit of intoxication and he was subsequently booked in on a warrant for vehicle homicide, driving right on the right side of the road, and possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle,” said Gossen.
It’s unknown at this time whether LeBlanc has been granted or has made bond.
