If you’re a King Cake connoisseur there’s an inaugural festival cooked up just for you on Saturday. It’s the Lafourche Education Foundation’s Bayou King Cake Festival. Thibodaux Mayor Kevin Clement says attendees can sample almost two dozen cakes and they have five tickets each to cast their vote.
“So you go to booth number one and you try their King Cake, you go to booth number two and you try their King Cake. Whatever booth gets the most tickets at the end of the day ends up being the People’s Choice Winner,” said Clement.
The event kicks off at 1:30 PM in downtown Thibodeaux with a kid’s parade. Five marching bands will accompany kids riding in wagons.
“The parents pull the wagon, and the kids are able to throw the beads to the people lining the streets. It’s already 30-something kid floats which is pretty good,” said Clement.
The festival has plenty of activities for kids, like face painting, a coloring booth, and music. Clement says it’s going to be a memorable event to kick off their carnival season and it’s all for a great cause the Lafourche Parish Education Foundation.
“It’s a great opportunity for that foundation to raise a little money but it’s also an opportunity for people to just get out of their houses and enjoy what we have to offer in downtown Thibodeaux. And I think it’s quite remarkable.
The winning King Cake will be announced at 5:30 and they’ll receive bragging and a billboard. Advance tickets are $10 and $15 at the event.
