Mona Hardin, the mother of Ronald Greene, will attend the President’s State of the Union tonight, where he’s expected to address police brutality. Hardin is the guest of Congressman Troy Carter, and he said it’s important to highlight Greene who died while in the custody of state police.
“Who covered up and disguised the murder, and I say murder, disguised the murder as an automobile accident when now facts reveal that that’s just not the case, he was in fact beaten to death,” said Carter.
Greene was killed in 2019 but a video of his arrest was released two years after his death. George Floyd’s death in 2020 sparred national protests and last month the brutal beating death of Tyre Nichols once again spotlights the issue.
Carter said these things have to stop.
“These are issues that should be offensive to anyone, Republican or Democrat to watch, people beaten at the hands of officers who are sworn to protect and serve,” said Carter.
Carter said Hardin was honored to be invited and pleased that her plight is not forgotten.
“Her commitment has been to keep the light burning and to continue the discussion about her son. To make sure no other mother has to feel the pain that she’s felt,” said Carter.
The issues of police brutality and reform, Carter said will be among the topics President Biden will address tonight. The State of the Union speech will air at 8 PM.
