Crawfish connoisseurs will be happy to know the average price per pound of live mudbugs are 25 cents lower at $2.77. Crawfish App co-founder Laney King said the industry dropped prices this week which brings the average price for a pound of boiled crawfish to $4.98.
“So now we’re really in that sweet spot where it is really easy to find crawfish, already boiled, from your favorite drive-thru for about $3.99 a pound,” said King.
King said with a $3.99 per pound average at your local drive-thru for boiled crawfish, it’s ideal for watching the Sweet 16 this weekend.
“I can’t think of anything better than a big platter of hot boiled crawfish while I’m watching the Sweet 16 seeing that women’s basketball. There’s really no better complimentary meal,” said King.
The Crawfish App compares prices from more than 16 hundred vendors in Louisiana and King said when you compare prices this weekend to the same as last year, prices are 18 percent lower or 51 cents per pound cheaper.
Historically, King said the weeks prior to Easter prices tend to drop, but she expects to see demand for crawfish on Easter weekend to reflect a bump in prices.
“But then we should see another price drop post-Easter. This has been a really good season, price drop after price drop. I would not be shocked to see another small price drop between now and Good Friday,” said King.
King said you should have no problem finding a $75 or less sack of crawfish this weekend. You can download the Crawfish App free on your smartphone.
