A truck theft in Slidell Monday involved a massive manhunt, a crash, flames, a disturbed hornets’ nest, two officers and K-9 stung multiple times and the suspect got away. Slidell PD Public Information Officer Daniel Seuzeneau said it started when a 2005 Ford F-250 was stolen from a gym parking lot.
“Suspect tried to exit off of Michaud Boulevard, which is actually closed. He hit a barricade which caused him to flip the truck into the woods,” said Seuzeneau.
The truck burst into flames and the suspect got out and ran across the interstate and into the swamp. The suspect is still at large, and the officers and K-9 that were stung are expected to recover.
Seuzeneau said multiple law enforcement agencies responded and they searched for hours for the suspect.
“So, you win some and you lose some, and unfortunately this time this guy got away, but we are currently reviewing video footage from the area trying to develop some more leads,” said Seuzeneau.
When two of the officers and a K-9 were searching the marsh for the suspect they found a hornet’s nest instead.
“I don’t know if you’ve ever seen or heard somebody getting attacked by hornets but it’s not pretty. The officers and the K-9 dog were attacked by hundreds of hornets,” said Seuzeneau.
The officers and K-9 received medical treatment and are expected to recover.
