The media at SEC Media Days has picked Alabama to win the SEC West in a close vote over LSU, who is picked to finish second. But Tiger Rag Editor Todd Horne believes the Tigers should be the preseason favorites to win the West.
“I personally think LSU has the advantage, because they have a returning quarterback and the same offensive and defensive coordinators, Alabama has none of that,” said Horne.
LSU will travel to Tuscaloosa this season to take on the Crimson Tide on November 4th. Horne says LSU has shown they can win at Alabama.
“As most Tiger fans know, LSU generally, in competitive seasons with Alabama has more luck at Tuscaloosa than they do in Tiger Stadium,” said Horne.
LSU Quarterback Jayden Daniels is a first team All SEC selection. Horne says he can’t argue against that selection.
“He’s the obvious choice for that, stats wise, fifth year, showing improvement, gaining weight, I think it’s going to be a great season for Jayden Daniels,” said Horne.
Georgia is the preseason favorite to win the SEC for a second consecutive year.
Only nine times since 1992 did the media at SEC Media Days correctly pick the team that ended up winning the SEC Title.
Eleven LSU Tigers made the preseason All-SEC team, led by Daniels who is a first-team selection, ahead of Arkansas’ K-J Jefferson and Tennessee’s Joe Milton.
Also landing on the first team from LSU, Malik Nabers, Will Campbell, Mekhi Wingo, Maason Smith and Harold Perkins.
Tight end Mason Taylor is a second team selection and offensive tackle Emery Jones and safety Major Burns are third team selections.
