The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics says the number of seasonally adjusted employed individuals increased by 20 thousand from June 2022 to this past June. Chief Economist at the Louisiana Workforce Commission Emily DiPalma says there were 2,037,445 people working in this state last month.
“That is one of the highest numbers ever recorded for Louisiana, but it’s also the highest number ever recorded for the month of June in Louisiana,” said DiPalma.
DiPalma says the Baton Rouge area has gained the most jobs over the last year, nearly 19,000. New Orleans has added 13,000 jobs, Lafayette added almost 4,000 and Shreveport 3,300.
DiPalma says they are encouraged to see the Lake Charles area has added nearly 3,000 jobs. She says it’s a sign of recovery for southwest Louisiana.
“As to be expected given the experiences that area has had, not only from the pandemic, but the national disasters on top of that experience, so we expected their recovery to be a little slower,” said DiPalma.
DiPalma says if you are looking for work, there are over 12,000 job openings on their HiRE website.
“That is the workforce commission’s website that not only allows job seekers to find employment, just not from that website, but it also spiders in from LinkedIn and other websites as well,” said DiPalma.
