A three-vehicle crash in St. James Parish claims the life of 31-year-old Destiny Scott of Gramercy. Trooper Christian Reed said just before five PM Monday a Toyota Camry traveling behind Scott’s Hyundai on Highway 61 south struck the victim’s car from behind which sent the car into oncoming traffic. Then Scott’s car hit a Ford F-150 that was traveling north.
“As a result of the impact both the Hyundai Kona which Scott was driving, and the F-150 both entered a canal and became partially submerged after exiting the roadway,” said Reed.
Scott succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Reed said it’s not known if the victim was restrained at the time of the accident.
“The other two parties involved in the crash were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries sustained in the crash,” said Reed.
The accident remains under investigation and why the Camry struck Scott’s from behind has yet to be determined. Reed said however impairment is not suspected, but routine toxicology samples were taken.
Reed reminds motorists that state law requires every person inside a vehicle to be properly restrained.
“But we need to properly wear our seatbelts as well because it’s the most effective way to save your life and reduce injuries in the crash,” said Reed.
The accident happened on Highway 61 just north of LA 3274.
