An ATV ride in St. Tammany Parish near Bush turned fatal when two female juveniles were driving the vehicle and struck a tree. Police were called to the scene on Saturday night when they were rushed to the hospital. Sargent Suzanna Carboni gives an update on the pair’s condition after the accident.
“Both girls were transported by emergency personnel to local hospitals and unfortunately the 12-year-old ultimately succumbed to her injuries Sunday morning,” Sargent Suzanna Carboni said.
The girl that passed was confirmed to be Payton Strain, and this is not the first death in the area from this type of accident.
“Just want people, parents, and individuals to understand that these are not toys. They are very dangerous. They need to be treated as such,” Carboni said.
Carboni also clarifies who should be driving these types of vehicles.
“They are not to be driven by children. They are not designed for children to drive or to control, and they are very dangerous.”
