Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry (R)
A poll conducted last week by Faucheux Strategies and paid for by multiple media outlets shows Republican Jeff Landry remains a frontrunner with 36% of support in the governor’s race. Democrat Shawn Wilson is at 26%. All of the other candidates are polling in the single digits. Pollster Dr. Ron Faucheux says 14% of the voters are undecided.
“What we really want to look at is the undecided vote – see how that breaks. See if the candidates go after Jeff Landry and attack him. It’s likely we’ll see more of that as the election winds up.”
While no other candidate approached double-digit support when likely voters were asked who they would vote for if the election were held right now, Independent Hunter Lundy registered third at 7 percent. Faucheux says there’s an opportunity for Hunter Lundy to improve his vote.
“Fourteen percent isn’t enough even if that fourteen percent went to one of these candidates who is running in single digits put them into a runoff.”
Republicans Steven Waguespack received 6 percent of votes, John Schroder at 4 percent, Sharon Hewitt at 3 percent, and Richard Nelson at 2 percent. Faucheux says there is still time to alter the election’s dynamics but the window of opportunity is closing quickly
“Things can happen. Things can change. I think its going to be difficult for more things like that to happen this time then happened in the past. But we never know. We just have to wait and see.”
The poll sampled 800 likely voters. Sixty-four percent of respondents are white, 30 percent Black, and six percent other.
