The U.S. House is without a speaker. Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida led a successful effort to oust Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker by getting a handful of Republicans to back him and every Democrat also voted for his removal. Baton Rouge Republican Congressman Garret Graves calls it a bone-headed move.
“Here are the Republican Party that’s supposed to be the majority in the House, yet 96%, 97% of them voted to keep the Speaker, so there is a big divide, I don’t think this going to be resolved quickly,” said Graves.
New Orleans Congressman Troy Carter says he voted for the motion to remove McCarthy because the speakership has been dysfunctional since day one and Americans deserve better.
But Graves says McCarthy was an accomplished Speaker who pushed a Conservative agenda and Gaetz forced him out.
“You got to be kidding me, I don’t even know what planet I’m on, watching what happened Tuesday and watching this guy pretend he’s a conservative,” said Graves.
Graves says Gaetz is only interested in raising his status as it’s been his desire to become a celebrity Congressman.
“This is like an arsonist who sets their house on fire, then puts the fire out, wants credit for putting out the fire and then sets up a Go Fund Me to get paid for it,” said Graves.
