Will the fresh Christmas tree scent cost you more this year in the Bayou State? Despite the state’s record-breaking drought and extreme heat, at a local level tree prices have remained steady. Incoming President of the Southern Christmas Tree Association Kevin Steele says there’s nothing for Louisianans to be worried about.
“There’s been no increase in the price of trees grown on the farm in Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama.”
Steele says the average price of a six-foot fresh tree is around eighty dollars. And if height matters…
“The average is from like 9 to 12 foot. We have those folks who still want a small tree but then we also have the folks that you know a small tree – a seven foot tree in a twelve foot ceiling just doesn’t look right.”
Steele is confident the supply is there to meet the expected demand. He suggests buying from a local Christmas tree farm instead of buying a plastic tree…
“The Christmas tree farmer like any other farmer is resilient and our trees are resilient. I believe in supporting home grown, home produced,, and we will have many trees to sell in years to come.”
