LSU coach Brian Kelly shined some light on freshman offensive tackle Lance Heard’s absence from the team in Tampa Bay as the Tigers prepare to battle Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Year’s Day.
Kelly said during a press conference on Friday that Heard is evaluating his role at LSU and there will be more conversations with him and his family after the bowl game.
The five-star recruit out of Neville High School in Monroe is very confident in his ability. He told Kelly prior to signing at LSU that he plans to start at left tackle as a freshman, despite Will Campbell returning for his sophomore season.
Heard appeared in all 12 games as a freshman and made just one start. The way it looks now, he might not be a regular starter again next season.
Campbell will be back for his junior season. Starting right tackle Emery Jones will also be back and there’s a good chance starting guards Garrett Dellinger and Miles Frazier will also be back.
Since Heard is a five-star recruit and wants to start as soon as he can, he might find better opportunities at other schools. You can also bet there might be a few nice NIL deals available to him.
Heard has not entered the transfer portal and only has a few more days to decide. This current transfer portal window closes on January 2nd.
LSU would hate to lose a five-star prospect from Louisiana, but they’ve recruited the offensive line position well, signing 14 high school recruits in the last three years.
The 2024 recruiting class has six o-linemen, including Weston Davis out of Beaumont, Texas. Some recruiting analysts have him ranked as a five-star. 247 sports has Davis ranked as the 13th best offensive tackle in the country.
