Attorney General Liz Murrill announces that 60 registered sex offenders in the greater Baton Rouge area have been arrested as part of a major internet sex crimes operation called “Operation Restricted Domain.” Murrill says these offenders violated sex offender registration laws and engaged in unlawful online activity by communicating with children through various apps.
“And I can tell you that the top offenders that I’ve seen: Snapchat, Instagram, Discord and Roblox,” Murrill said.
Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre says state law is clear: If you are a registered sex offender as a result of a crime against children, you cannot use social media platforms, chat rooms and peer-to-peer networks.
“One being, stay off the social media. And they couldn’t do that. So sometimes you can’t fix people, and sometimes I wonder if pedophiles can be fixed at all?” Webre asked.
Murrill urges parents to closely monitor their children’s online activity.
“Parents really need to step in and limit their children’s social media use and be very, very in their business about what they’re doing and who’s talking to them on the internet,” Murrill noted.
This year alone, through May 10, Louisiana has received nearly 27,000 cyber tips, compared to more than 31,000 cyber tips received in all of 2025. The ICAC Task Force and Cyber Crime Unit have made a total of 292 arrests, identified 36 child victims, and rescued 32 children from ongoing abuse investigations just this year.
