LSU special assistant and former head football coach Ed Orgeron has been sidelined since mid-August with an undisclosed health issue. He missed both of the Tigers’ first games, but head coach Lane Kiffin says his health is improving.
“He’s doing better. It was a little bit scary; I’m not going to get into any details with that, but he’s doing better; he’s still not all the way back. He means a lot to me; we’ve just been through a lot,” Kiffin said.
Kiffin and Orgeron worked together under Pete Carroll at USC in the early 2000s, and Kiffin also hired him to his staff at Tennessee and USC.
Kiffin says Coach O has been back in the building during the day but couldn’t confirm whether he’ll make the trip to Oxford this weekend.
“He joked one day; he said, ‘Hey coach, you know I’m never going to a hospital, man. If I die, I’m dying on that field out there.’ So, that’s who he is, that’s how he is with everything, and sometimes that’s not always the best thing to follow,” Kiffin noted.
Both Orgeron and Kiffin were previously head coaches of the Rebels.
