The 8,600 students LSUA welcomed this fall represent the largest enrollment in university history and a nearly 12% increase from last year. LSUA Chancellor Dr. Elizabeth Beard says that the university offers a personal and impactful education.
“Our students are choosing LSUA because we have faculty who invest in them, we have rigorous academic programs that lead to degrees, our students really love the fact that their faculty know them by name,” Beard said.
Online enrollment grew over 10% while dual enrollment saw a 45% jump. Four-year institutions nationwide have seen just a 1.4% enrollment increase over the last year, but Dr. Beard says LSUA’s outreach has helped reverse that trend in Alexandria.
“All of those avenues for access are really the difference makers in helping us thrive, where other universities or higher ed opportunities are not,” Beard noted.
LSUA serves thousands of adult learners, rural residents, and military-connected students who traditionally do not have easy access to higher education. Dr. Beard says keeping meaningful degrees affordable is vital to the university’s mission.
“We have to make sure that higher education and these degrees that are really life-changing for our students, so many of whom are first-generation college students; we have to make sure that that college degree really is accessible and attainable,” Beard explained.
LSU-A now enrolls students from all 64 Louisiana parishes, all 50 states and 49 countries.
