Shreveport Police make an arrest in connection with a shooting at an apartment complex. Corporal Christopher Bordelon says following a thorough investigation, police arrested 19-year-old Javieon Abbott for shooting three children at the apartment complex’s basketball court.
“One of them being a 13-year-old child, Sha’michal Russell, who was later pronounced deceased; and there was a 17-year-old and a two-year-old also struck by gunfire in this incident,” Bordelon noted.
Bordelon says Abbott was directing his gunfire at the 17-year-old, and it hit and killed 13-year-old Sha’michal Russell in the process.
“We do believe that possibly the 17-year-old may have been the initial target and unfortunately Mr. Russell, the 13-year-old, just happened to have been present at that location,” Bordelon said.

The other child shot was Russell’s two-year-old sister. Family members told local media in Shreveport that Sha’michal and his little sister were visiting their grandmother at the apartment complex, and he died while saving his sister amid the barrage of gunfire. Bordelon says Abbott is charged with second-degree murder, with other charges forthcoming.
“Right now he is the first arrest, and we do believe him to be the gunman. However, there are possibly some more arrests that may come down the road for some people that had involvement after the fact,” Bordelon explained.
