After a brawl broke out during a homecoming celebration on campus at LSU’s last home game, LSU officials are cracking down on unauthorized large gatherings. University President Wade Rousse says he remembers how special it was to come to campus to tailgate as a kid, and he does not want to jeopardize that experience for anyone.

“We’ve put a plan in place that makes certain that everyone can continue to have the tailgating tradition that we’ve had for years and years and years in this state,” Rousse said.
Officials are targeting large, unapproved events on campus, oftentimes with DJs or live music — not your average family tailgate. Rousse says those gatherings were already prohibited, and any events like approved fraternity tailgates must be shut down an hour before kickoff. He says gameday should be about football.
“We’re here to celebrate, have a good time, eat some wonderful food, fellowship, see folks we haven’t seen, pregame; and once kickoff happens, everyone should be focused on football,” Rousse noted.
Rousse says you may see a few more law enforcement officers on campus, but he doesn’t want people to think campus is in some sort of state of emergency.
“Really not; for the most part, our gamedays have been phenomenal. But we don’t want some sort of special event to hinder that in any way, shape or form,” Rousse explained.
