Louisiana Tech and LSU Health Shreveport signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a partnership for research and student training. Dr. Oren Rom, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research at LSU Health Shreveport, says the agreement allows students, faculty and researchers to collaborate on research projects and share access to specialized facilities.
“Something that people don’t realize is the level of mentorship, and also the level of state-of-the-art technology we have here in North Louisiana,” Rom noted.
Rom says the agreement is a big win for both institutions and a perfect marriage of biomedical and clinical research and engineering and advanced manufacturing expertise. He says graduate students and faculty from both universities will be able to share resources and mentorship with the other.
“The level of faculty that we have here and people that we’ve recruited over the last years; we’ve brought in people from the best institutions in the world, and they are right here in North Louisiana,” Rom explained.
The partnership will help the institutions advance discovery, innovation and economic growth in North Louisiana. Louisiana Tech Interim Vice President for Research Dr. Bala Ramu Ramachandran says it will help them compete for federal and private funding.
“This will lead to collaborations, research proposals, and there’s lots of potential for external funding,” Ramachandran said.
