Hurricane Laura is expected to produce storm damage in northwest Louisiana as the center of the storm will move past the Shreveport-Bossier area Thursday afternoon.
A hurricane warning is posted as far north as Desoto, Red River, and Natchitoches parishes. Caddo Emergency Preparedness Deputy Director Robert Jump says they could see up to eight inches of rain in isolated areas
“We can deal with that over a week but if we deal with that in an afternoon or over the course of a few hours drainage becomes tough,” said Jump.
Much of north Louisiana is under a tropical storm warning. Jump says people need to prepare.
“Batten down the hatches around your properties, make sure any canopies or tents are put away, lawn furniture those kinds of thing could be weapons if picked up by a strong wind,” said Jump.
Jump says Caddo hasn’t seen this kind of tropical system since 2005 when Rita took a very similar path to Laura.
