LSU Health Shreveport is doing another round of drive-thru vaccinations at the Shreveport Fairgrounds for those 70 and over and who have appointments.
Director of Vaccine Distribution Dr. John Vanchiere says they’ve got enough vaccine to administer 4,000 shots this week.
“We’ve been scheduling people all weekend who were pre-registered in the order that they were pre-registered so that everyone maintains their place in line,” said Vanchiere.
Only those who made appointments with LSU Health Shreveport before January 14th are on the list.
Vanchiere says because they have over 6,200 people on their waitlist.
“We will not get through everybody in the next few days and we have petitioned the state for more vaccine to start next week again,” said Vanchiere.
Vanchiere says there’s still only enough vaccine for those most at risk right now, which is why they’re still only sticking you if you were born before this date in 1951.
“We have only vaccinated as best as we can estimate 20 to 25 percent of the over 70 population so far, so we still have a good ways to go with that population and that is why we are making the push,” said Vanchiere.
The vaccinations will be administered 8 AM to 4 PM today through Thursday.
