Baton Rouge police are investigating the shooting death of 64-year-old Ronnie Carter who was allegedly shot by his son 21-year-old Adam Carter. BRPD spokesperson Sgt L’Jean McKneely said it happened around 9:30 Tuesday morning.
“What we know was there was an argument between the father and the son, and during the course of that argument the son grabbed the gun and shot his dad killing him,” said McKneely.
According to a police report obtained by Baton Rouge TV station WBRZ, the 21-year-old admitted to shooting his father and told police where he put the gun. Adam Carter told detectives he “becomes extremely angry when he hears someone blow their nose” and that led to the argument with his father. The victim reportedly told his son “shoot me right here” just before he was shot.
McKneely says after the shooting Adam Carter called authorities.
“He rendered aid after shooting him, called for medical assistance but by the time that police and EMS arrived the dad had then died,” said McKneely.
McKneely said it’s going to be a difficult time for the family to cope with such a tragedy during the holidays.
“It’s going to be hard for the family so we’re just sending out prayers to them to the family and friends while they’re dealing with the tragic incident as it occurred right before Thanksgiving,” said McKneely.
Adam Carter was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for Manslaughter.
