After a 17-year-old was killed on I-110 Saturday night, Baton Rouge Police are asking for the public’s help in what they believe was a targeted shooting. BRPD Sgt L’Jean McKneely said it happened just after 10:30 near the Hollywood Street exit. He said the driver, Nykobia Keller along with a passenger had just left someone’s house.
“As they got onto the interstate the vehicle pulled alongside them and fired multiple shots inside the car, shooting the driver of the vehicle who then died from her gunshot injuries,” said McKneely.
McKneely said they don’t believe Keller was necessarily the intended target, but they do believe the shooter was specifically shooting at her vehicle and her passenger.
“Whoever did the shooting was shooting at persons inside that vehicle,” said McKneely.
Police do not have a description of the vehicle that was shooting at Keller and her passenger nor a motive at this time.
“At this time, we haven’t had anything come into Crimestoppers but we’re relying heavily on the community to give us calls that will assist us in our investigation,” said McKneely.
Keller is survived by her four-year-old son.
