Finally, some good news about crawfish this week. Crawfish App co-founder Laney King said mudbug prices dropped a dollar a pound this week. She said boiled crawfish average $5.99 a pound and you can find a sack for about $160. After a rough start to the season, King said the outlook has definitely improved.
“January there weren’t very many crawfish. February a little bit better, but in March we’re really seeing the catch pick up. The fishermen and farmers are telling us supply is up and that is driving prices down,” said King.
If you’ve tried to delay your craving for crawfish due to cost, King said we’ve entered that sweet spot for the best prices you’ll see this season especially, with Easter at the end of the month.
“You can find them on the find them on the Crawfish App for $5.99 a pound boiled. We’re just kind of seeing January prices in March right now and that’s still concerning for a lot of folks out there who are dying to get their hands on some crawfish,” said King.
King said now is the time to visit your favorite crawfish spot because they’re at a good size and prices are reasonable.
“It’s unfortunate that prices are not going to be at levels that people are used to. They’re going to just going to kind of stay elevated for the rest of the season I think but now through Easter, we can expect at least a small price drop every week,” said King.
You can find the Crawfish App available for download on your smartphone.
