Louisiana’s Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday begins Friday, runs through Sunday

If hunting supplies are on your shopping list, you can keep the sales tax by buying them this weekend. Byron Henderson with the Louisiana Department of Revenue says the annual 2nd Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday begins tomorrow and runs through Sunday.

“Consumer purchases of firearms, ammunition and wide range of other hunting supplies are exempt from state and local sales tax,” Henderson explained.

Henderson says the sales tax holiday only applies to consumer purchases; it does not apply to business or commercial purchases.

“The sales tax exemption applies to all consumer purchases of firearms, ammunition, specified hunting supplies including archery items, hunting apparel; even certain types of knives,” Henderson noted.

Henderson says there are items, however, which are not eligible for the sales tax exemption.

“That includes hunting dogs, animal feed, offroad vehicles and water vessels such as airboats,” Henderson said.
