A new Planned Parenthood Health Center has opened in New Orleans after the previous one closed in 2025. President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Plains, Emily Wales says the facility on 4624 South Claiborne Avenue is the only Planned Parenthood location in Louisiana.
“We operate currently in Arkansas; and had heard from supporters really close by who were worried about Louisiana and the lack of providers and wanted Planned Parenthood to be back in the state,” Wales said.
Wales says the Planned Parenthood New Orleans Health Center is offering a wide range of sexual and reproductive health services, including birth control and emergency contraception, STI testing and treatment, pregnancy testing and cancer screenings. She says state law prohibits them from performing abortions.
“Because of Louisiana’s ban on abortions here in the state, we aren’t offering any abortions; but we’re providing all other types of care,” Wales explained.
Most people connect Planned Parenthood with women patients, but Wales says they also can perform vasectomies.
“Vasectomies can be hard to get, especially in high-need, low-resource communities. So if you’re looking for vasectomies, give us a call,” Wales noted.
PPLA is completing credentialing and enrollment processes, so it is not yet able to accept most private or public insurance plans. However, financial assistance is available to eligible patients.
